The nightmare begins with a dev mistake. While working on theYoshi engine, the developers accidentally left a certaingirlfriend.jsonin the files. This led to a corruption—but not a total breakdown—of the Girlfriend character. The team released the build anyway, ignoring the anomaly.

Players soon noticed something was off. When trying to delete the corrupted GF, a message would appear:“You can’t delete girlfriend.”For most, it was a glitch. For one unfortunate player, it was a death sentence.

Attempting to remove the file again, the same message appeared. But this time, it changed.“Girlfriend is deleting you.”

The next day, the player was found dead under mysterious circumstances, the game still running. As the PC overheated and caught fire, Boyfriend could be heard whispering:“Please don’t let her do this to another soul… please free us…”
